JANUARY 2018
I am currently working on a new online course, entitled 'DRAWING FOR ANIMATION'. It is not actually a 2D animation course, but one that is based on the notion of how observation, analysis and pose gesture drawing can significantly help ALL animators. It is based on my latest popular book, 'The Animator's Sketchbook'. However, one of the exercises that I roughed out but will NOT be using in the course, is 'How To Create a Basic Walk in 60 Seconds'. I thought it could be the basis of a great challenge . . .
Your FEB 2018 challenge therefore is to animate a basic walk cycle, with a character of your own creation, showing a minimum of 4 repeat cycles as it moves. You can add subtle extra visual touches if you like, but the core challenge is to make it BASIC as instructed.
For those who cannot create animation, the DRAWING side of this challenge would be to submit a single image file with 4 key walk positions on it... the 2 Key Stride positions and the 2 Passing Positions.
Note: Visual invention in terms of character design (and maybe even adding a background design, if you're up for that) will gain the most attention. However, the underlying principles of a Basic Walking action must remain intact.
