March 2015 challenge (the March 2015 challenge is now closed ~ check back on April 1st for the next one. responses to the march challenge entries will be posted in the gallery on this website, and on the facebook group page, by the end of month!)
The above video was captured on an iPhone from a short film on YouTube that features an athlete completing a 'Flick Flack' action. Study the video and create a series of 3-minute speed-sketches of the key positions that define the action. (For a better understanding of the key pose positions, check another video on YouTube by clicking HERE.)
Do not try to accurately draw the athlete as you see him. Instead you should use a simple character design ~ like Tony White's "Arnie" character below ~ to quickly capture the key positions of the action. Remember, the quality of drawing is not important with speed-drawing for animation. What is important is body angles, balance and consistent proportions of whatever character you choose to draw!
Submissions need to be posted on Facebook by midnight, on Sunday, March 15 2015.

Tony White has used his 'Arnie' character to teach animation poses and actions since his first book, "The Animator's Workbook", came out in 1978. A little more challenging to draw than a 'stick figure', it nevertheless offers every opportunity to quickly capture pose positions with 'structure', 'volume', 'weight' and '3-dimensional flexibility'.
