MARCH 2019
This month you are required to explore the value of observational gesture drawing to bring your animation to life . . .
All the finest character animators will not solely rely on imagination alone to drive their animation decision-making. Instead they will observe the kind of real-world action that most closely resembles the animated movement they are attempting to produce - creating for themselves quick observational gesture drawings in the process. If they can't do this "live", then they will turn to YouTube. If they can't find it on YouTube they'll shoot video footage themselves that best reflects the movement they're most keen to reproduce.
The March 2019 challenge is to create 4 observational gesture drawings that best define the kind of animation you're planning to create. The animation can be anything you like - something you've been thinking of doing for some time now but never got round to doing it, or maybe something you've always wanted to animate but not quite known how to go about it. In that sense this is a "freeform" assignment ~ meaning that it can represent any characters or animated action that most peaks your interest.
Additionally, you are not only required submit 4 gesture drawings for an action of your own choice, but you also must briefly write what your intended objectives are in relation to the animation you will be attempting. These brief written objectives can be added as Facebook text when you post your 4 gesture drawings of course, or embedded in your single drawing file.
The most comprehensive use of "observational gesture drawing" will win this month's challenge.
So over to you everyone. . . and "good luck" with your submission! (And remember, your drawings have to be observational - i.e. from real life - not imaginary!) :)
