MARCH 2019
The North American Indians believe that animals can teach us so much about ourselves and how we might best express our own unique qualities in this world. Animals that appear in our dreams can be particularly revealing to us too.

In choosing to describe them as “Spirit Animals” the Native Peoples imply that animals seem to have a similar role in our lives as “Guardian Angels” may do in certain religions. We can even identify the Spirit Animal of a person by the way the look and the way they behave. Anyone who wants to know more about Spirit Animals and what the mean to us, should check out this article for starters . . . HERE.
For this month’s challenge you are asked to draw the animal you most closely identify with. You are asked to create 4 action poses of your chosen Spirit Animal (on one digital file please) with each dynamic action pose communicating to us why you identify with that animal and defining the key qualities it has. The use of words is NOT recommended of course, as each key animation pose should express its own visual story in terms of how you see the poses as being relevant to that animal and you.
(TIP: Search out video footage or action stills of your chosen animal and create observational drawings from the key action - very much as you did in the last March drawing challenge. You can then develop your gesture drawings into final ones that are used for submission to the Sketchclub.)
The most dynamic and revealing 4 poses will prove the winning entry this month. Drawing ability alone will NOT do it. Instead, the poses - and the message they convey - is most important on this occasion.
Finally, “good luck” in the exploration of yourself through your Spirit Animal drawings!
