JUNE 2015:
JUNe 2015 ANIMATOR’S SKETCHCLUB Challenge:
And now for something completely different!
Below are the 5 key positions of a single 'generic walk' stride action. Study them carefully and try to understand what's happening.
Option 1:
Based on the reference above, create our own 5 generic walk positions - but instead of using the 'Arnie' character above, create a character of your own design and draw it in the same positions. Make sure that you keep all your character proportions consistent as you reflect the actions indicated above with your own character. (Note that I have added reference lines to help you understand what's going on. I do recommend that you use similar lines to ensure you keep your action and shapes consistent.) Draw all your 5 positions on one single page.
Option 2:
If you are not into character design, an alternative option for the above is to go out into the street and draw people you observe walking by. Try to visualize them in these 5 stride positions and draw them accordingly, (i.e. Look at position '1' above - known as a 'Key Stride' position - and capture someone you see in real life in this same position. Repeat this for position '3', '5', '7' and '9', so you have an entire set that makes up one complete stride action.) You can choose a different person for each of the positions if you like, as long as you keep the same basic sizes and proportions consistent throughout. Transfer all of your 5 positions onto single page image for submission.
Entries close at MIDNIGHT (Pacific Time) on Sunday, June 28th 2015! (Extended deadline!)
(And remember... you have to be a member of the ANIMATOR'S SKETCHCLUB GROUP on Facebook to submit!)
And this month... a PRIZE FOR THE WINNER!!!
I am in the process of creating a special printed flipbook - where artists or animators can draw their own animated walk sequence, page-by-page, using similar 'Arnie' positions to the ones above. When they have completed all the pages they will be able to flip them all to see their character walk. I will be awarding a free, signed edition of the first ever printed flipbook to the winner of this Challenge! So do give it a serious go folks as you could win something quite unique! Happy drawing one and all... and do spread the word so others can have a go too! :) |
