AUGUST 2020
The new "My Animator's Sketchclub" animation community network will have themes for each month of the year. August is about "DIRECTING". It makes sense therefore to tie up our monthly drawing or animation challenges to coincide with that. So, below is a short excerpt from the screenplay of the movie "The Incredibles" - together with a picture of "Wallace & Gromit". This month we are looking for a mashup of both!
CHALLENGE:
Consider yourself as a director of a new movie that is based on “The Incredibles” script but designed and animated like “Wallace & Gromit”. In imagining that, draw up a thumbnail storyboard, indicating just how you would conceive the movie from a director’s point of view.
You only have one page to work with so if you can’t cover the entire attached script that is OK. What we’re looking for is your director’s vision in drawn-out form, using roughed-out creative ideas. (So even 6 drawn frames could cover enough for you to get your thoughts across.)
Remember too that thumbnail storyboards are not highly finished works of art. As long as your sketches are clear enough to communicate your ideas, then all is OK.
So folks, put your animation director’s hat on and show us how you'd handle this challenge!

Draw yourself a simple grid of boxes onto a sheet of paper to work with ~ however many frames you need on a single page!
Important note: You may have seen elsewhere that the Animator’s Sketchclub now has its own online animation community network! This does not mean that you cannot submit your challenge work via the Facebook group as normal. However, members of the “My Animator’s Sketchclub” animation community can submit there their work there and will get free feedback as a result of doing so. This will not happen with posts in the regular Facebook group. That said, ALL submissions will be eligible for judging equally at the end of the month - so it doesn’t really matter which way you submit your work.
Important note: The winner of each monthly challenge from now on will win FREE membership to the My Animator’s Sketchclub network for one year. (Unless they are already a member!) They will also get FREE 1-year membership of the private group within the network, called “SKETCHCLUB PRO”. (Again, if they don’t already have it!) Members of "Sketchclub Pro" will get more 1 on 1 feedback for their challenge work and also have the opportunity of resubmitting their work after their personal critique, as long as their resubmitted entry arrives before the published deadline.
Again though, it must again be stressed that whatever way your submission is entered, will be judged objectively and without prejudice.
This is our promise to all members ~ here or in the "My Animator's Sketchclub" community.
