SEPTEMBER 2017
'Throw' challenge.
The video below is an example of a 'baseball pitcher' action I once animated for a class I was teaching. The objective of the exercise was to show students the process of research PRIOR to actually starting their animation. The process I presented was to i) watch pitchers in action, ii) to study videos of them throwing, and iii) to then draw thumbnail sketches of the particular action they planned to animate. The animation however needed to be based on the research they did. Only after all their prep was completed could they actually start their animation.
Here are the thumbnails I created before the animation was done . . .
SEPTEMBER CHALLENGE: Research some kind of throwing action of your own, then recreate that action in animation using a character of your own choice. (Tracing live action or cartoon action that exists already will not cut it I'm afraid folks - i.e. it has to be original and based on your own research.) Submit final animation as video only (i.e. no GIFFS) and submit your research thumbnails separately if you wish you enhance your chance of winning.
NOTE: If you're not able to do animation with your home set-up, submit your research thumbnail sketches as an entry for the month's 'Drawing' challenge instead. You thumbnails should all be placed onto one image file, as my example above demonstrates.
'Good luck' with your animation or thumbnail sketching for this month's challenge folks! :)
Deadline:
'Drawing' or 'Animation' submissions must be in by midnight on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 30th (Pacific Time).
