'walking the walk'
I came across the video to the right on Facebook recently. Do check it out as its very cool! I have actually done something like this myself in the past and had great fun in doing it. So I thought it would be a wonderful thing for us all to do something like it for this month's challenge! It would be a fine act of 'creative togetherness' for us all I believe.
THE CHALLENGE: So, I want you to draw a single frame of the walk cycle I have created for one of my Flipbooks and to submit it via our Facebook page. when its done Each frame created should ultimately be wonderful design piece in its own right. But, once I have edited everyone's frames together - one after the other - it could also become an incredible video sequence created by us all. I suggest we call it 'Animators Walking the Walk' and hopefully it will go viral when its released! It could of course be a logistical nightmare for me to do this - with potentially so many members taking part and everyone choosing their own frame in the action to work upon, leaving holes in the sequence elsewhere.. So I first need to hear from you on Facebook if you are willing to take on this challenge. If I do hear from you I will send you a selected frame to base your artwork on. (The 'Sample' image to the right will give you an idea of what I'll send you - minus the word 'SAMPLE' of course!) When you've finished your frame, send it back to me and I'll import it into the video sequence for rendering out. RULES & GUIDELINES: You can traditionally re-draw the frame if you like and scan it before sending it - or alternatively, digitally work over the top of mine, removing the original artwork as you do so. But do please remember that... i) you will not be able to change the size of the outer frame (1920 x 1080 pixels), ii) you must keep the position of the horizon line as it is. and iii) you will need to re-create the same body pose with whatever character you create with your own imagination. However beyond that, you can do anything you like to make it yours - including the background design, the colors you use and the visual technique you choose to create it in. In terms of the range of design styles you can bring to the party, check out some of the designs my students did for the Flipbook cover on the right... FINALLY... I think this will all make sense to you. But if you do have a question, please share it on the group Facebook page and I will answer accordingly. I do think that this could ultimately be an incredible animated statement by our group when completed. and I can't wait to see how long (in screen time) it will eventually walk for - although that entirely depends how many of you contribute a final frame to it of course! So, there's your November challenge folks. Have fun! :) |
Here's an example of the walk cycle frame I will send you to work from. You can draw your own character and background over it - as long as you i) match the body pose, ii) keep the same horizon line and iii) don't change the size of the frame....
Below are some of the designs my students did for the Flipbook version of this walking action. It will give you and idea of what you can do if you exercise your imagination, based on the walk pose I will supply you with...
