OCTOBER 2018
OK, we're sticking with funny or eccentric walks right now . . . but bear with me!
The above is an eccentric walk I created for my talk at CTNX a number of years ago. I obsess about walks when teaching animation by the way as, at the beginning of my career, my great mentors from the early Disney and Warner Brothers era always told me that the hardest thing to create was a good walk. They added however that if you can pull off a great walk then you can pretty much animate anything!
The Challenge:
Bearing this in mind, I want this month's "drawing" challenge to be linked to next month's "animation" challenge. As next month is December and everyone will be Christmas crazy, the plan for next month's challenge is to do a Santa walk - and the funnier or more eccentric it is the better! This month therefore is a drawing challenge where you will come up with a concept design for your next month's animation challenge. So in effect, this is a double-header challenge.
As a little bonus to all this, I want to offer a Christmas gift to the best contributors this month. For the top 4 entries this month I will mentor their animated walk action next month. Now I cannot do full-scale mentoring full-time. However, I will give basic feedback in helping the execution of animation for those top 4 drawers from this month. I cannot guarantee either that the 4 mentored animation entries next month will win that animation challenge automatically. So its open for everyone to have a go over both those months. (I do hope however that everyone will benefit from entering both months as my mentoring comments will be published openly on the Facebook group page for all to learn from.)
So, get your pencils sharpened everyone and show me the kind of drawn design and character poses you plan to use for your eccentric Santa walk when animating it next month. Everything submitted this month needs to be contained in one drawing file only. But the more information your drawing gives me this month the more chance you'll have of being mentored next.
Does that sound like a good double-header challenge plan for Christmas? I hope so!
"Good Luck" everyone! :)
