The ‘Certificate of Animation Mastery’ is an online 1-year art-intensive program for students who are thinking of a career in animation – whether that career be in 2D, 3D or any other form of animation - in games, film or any other delivery platform.
This program allows you to inexpensively study - entirely at your own pace - everything you need to know before you venture forward on your journey towards animation specialization, at college or within the industry itself. What follows tells you why... |
In an increasingly digital world it is incredibly important that the future generations entering be trained in core, classical art skills. With these creative individuals are able to ‘see’, ‘interpret what they see’, ‘imagine beyond what they see’ and then ‘visually communicate their unique visions’ to others.
The biggest fallacy of the modern digital world is that 'it’s the software that does all the work'. This is so much not true! It is the people who 'bring what they have to the software' that makes it happen. This is increasingly realized by animation employers in the game, film or other related industries. Yet it is something that most schools or colleges do not address. This Certificate program seeks to remedy this.
The 'Certificate in Animation Mastery' is specifically designed for all those who wish to enter colleges or the industry as animators or animation-related artists. It provides that missing link of artistry that they can carry forward with them as they enter the digital arena. The subjects taught in our foundation program contain all the individual visual and artistic skills that will carry an animator’s computer work to the next level. ‘Artists’ not ‘technicians’ is the message here. For it really is the artists using software that will ultimately bring innovation to the world of digital animation.
Reflecting this need the following 5 foundation course cover all the required bases...

Reflecting this need the following 5 foundation course cover all the required bases...
1) Drawing for Animation: This class is not to create a ‘Leonardo da Vinci’ or a ‘Rembrandt’ in drawing - but to make students more capable of articulating through drawing visual ideas and concepts. It will also train the student's eye to 'see' what is all around them, which is a HUGE asset in terms of creativity, especially animation-based creativity.
2) Illustration & Design: Again, not to primarily create professional illustrators - but to introduce students to the basic principles of ‘anatomy’, ‘color’, ‘perspective’, ‘composition’, ‘light’, etc. A smattering of basic Graphic Design will be added too, so that students are aware of all the components of successful visual communication.
3) Traditional & Digital 2D animation: Here the students will learn the core principles of animated movement, giving them the skills to apply to CG and game-based 3D animation later. The fundamental skills learned here will arm them well for future studies in 3D or any other form of animation.
4) Storyboarding, Animatics and the Language of Film: Basically this is a course on visual storytelling and essential film language. Most students are brimming with ideas but it is extremely important that they learn how to communicate those ideas successfully. This course is based upon 100 years of evolving ways to do this – ‘gold-dust’ for all film and game animators!
5) Motion Comics (animated graphic novels/comic books): This concluding course teaches the art of storytelling which is then integrated with all the above skills to show how well a student can ‘imagine’, ‘design’, ‘animate’ and ‘successfully present’ a personal story. They may even discover a career in indie Motion Comic production too!
